STFB Thompson's Station Battlefield Tour

November 7, 2009

On a beautiful fall morning we welcomed approximately 30 STFB members and guests to Homestead Manor for a tour of the Thompson’s Station Battlefield.  We were pleased to greet among those present Williamson County Commissioners Greg Davis and Elizabeth Hester.

On the home’s front lawn, our tour guide Thomas Cartwright gave a fascinating overview of the tactics, action, and key individuals involved in the battle of Thompson’s Station.  We also walked portions of the 46 acre property which includes the hill where the surrender of Federal troops took place.  As always, Thomas did a masterful job of bringing the action to life as well as making clear the importance of preserving the battlefield.

Owner of Homestead Manor, Jay Franks gave an update on efforts to create a Thompson’s Station battlefield park.  Jay and his wife Marcia along with several neighbors have placed conservation easements on their properties, ensuring their perpetual protection from development.

We thank our tour guide Thomas Cartwright for an outstanding job and Jay and Marcia Franks for opening their property to us for the tour.

Thomas is available to lead battlefield tours under arrangement with the Lotz House www.lotzhouse.com.  You will soon be able to visit the Homestead Manor Plantation Restaurant and Tea Room www.homesteadmanor.com
